Training Day 4 was busy with teachers reporting back on ‘Filling the Whole’ and finding out about the last two Year 7 modules – ‘Knowing the Unknown’ and ‘Sorting it Out’.  Many interesting issues were raised in our training days across the country: we discussed how to support students in mathematising contexts,  how to build on their informal models, and how to manage and compare student contributions to extract important differences in strategies.  We also focused on establishing classroom norms of active listening, and a shared understanding of what teachers and students are doing as they work with RME.

A major theme for this Training Day was how much mileage you might get from the questions: ‘What else do you know?’  ‘Say what you see’ and ‘Where can you see…. ?’
